This is a continuation of my cross blog conversation with Danielle of MomGiveaways.
Here is my question for you Melitsa: What do you think has contributed most to your success? For someone getting started what would you recommend they do first?
I enjoyed reading your answers and what you said I would have said too about networking and friendships. 🙂
What do you think has contributed most to your success?
Good question.I’m taking success to mean being online and talking about things I love. I’m always seeking to be more balanced and successful in more areas like time; finances etc but as an online presence…I’d say quite a few things keep me focused.
Without a doubt, MomMasterminds. This womens network group have really helped me find my direction. I hadn’t done anything online before I started to blog. Everything was a steep learning curve with lots of mistakes and learning along the way. Joining MomMasterminds, I found a dedicated group of women who were happy to help, guide and give constructive feedback. I learn a lot from them and their super dooper learning resource center.
Also, friendships and partnerships with other bloggers. This has become so much easier with Twitter and social networks. We get to know each other better. Blogging has changed a lot with more Mommy bloggers, review blogs, contest blogs and paid sponsorship blogging with all these changes bloggers have also become more personal and specialised. It’s important to have a group of friends in your niche to help and support each other.
Reading other blogs and keeping up with new ideas.
I love commenting on others blogs. I know we all love comments. The bonus is that Bloggers often come to your blog to return a comment.
I’d say my family too because without them blogging wouldn’t be so much fun.
I guess that’s a lot of things. 🙂
Just like parenting some days you don’t feel very successful at all; not enough playtime; too many toys; timeouts and other days when you get an email from a parent who’s tried your idea or positive feedback from the play activity emails you are glad you were able to help.
For someone getting started what would you recommend they do first?
If they want to blog I’d recommend visiting lots of blogs and look around. Read the content and see what type of posts they’d like to do.
- Get used to the world of blogging.
- Comment on posts
- recommend posts
- tweet
- find out about feed readers.
- Start building relationships.
Blogging is a very social event. If you don’t have relationships you can feel really lonely and like your talking to yourself. It’s really disheartening. I feel sad when I come across an abandon blog or one I’ve not commented on and they stop blogging.
When I started I followed The Blog Coach ecourse . I’m one of those people that has to read and learn before I do. That free course helped me identify my niche and establish a plan. I would really encourage newbies to do that. This really helped me grasp and do.
If you’d prefer to buy, I’d recommend Kelly McCausey’s book The Complete Internet Marketing Moms Start Up Guide!
I’m learning a lot from you, Danielle. Can you explain more about how Momgiveaways works, what you have to offer and some tips when entering giveaways??
