Welcome to Day Five of 31 days of Sensory Play.
Physical touch and play has changed so much within our century.
Get a bunch of children together and soon they’ll want to be rolling around on the floor together; grabbing each other and generally touching each other. Followed shortly by parents untangling children and separting them.
I’ve noticed my boys especially love to do this and reading The Minds of Boys: Saving Our Sons From Falling Behind in School and Life I can see how this is how they bond.
Who rolls around the floor with their children like the examples above?
The right type of physical touch is a tricky line to walk for many people so it’s easier to not participate. Maybe you’ve heard or witnessed a bad experience?
But what have you decided for your family?
Here are a few resources to get you thinking about roughhousing. Is it a sensory activity we want to do in our family? Why or why not?
